What did you think of the Stewart system? A friend of mine has been looking into it for the PA22 we are restoring and had worries that the A&P we are working with wouldn't sign off on it.

Regarding the mechanic sign-off, what's his reservations? It is fully STC-ed and it's the only FAR-23 certified sytem.

What is the reason for his reluctance? I am an A&P and I will never use any other process. I find it far ahead of the others in cement strength, ease of application and weight savings. Larry Huntley

The problem that he has is that it is a relatively new system and may not be as thoroughly tested as other methods. I am not going to lie, this is the first airplane that I have ever worked on and I really don't know what methods work and which don't work. When I get home I will start a new thread on the project that I have.

Stewart Systems has been around since 1991.At that time it was AFS. Stewarts bought it out in2006,but previous to that had been the only distributor. Stewarts can tell you where to find a plane that has been covered with it for 15 yrs and is still good looking and flexible. Stewarts have planes themselves that have been covered since at least 2006. ( I think far before that).I have 2 planes and several parts of planes that have been covered in the last 5 years. I have one covered with another process that was so badly stained that I recovered the fuselage with Stewart's a couple of years ago. End of problem. Call Stewart's and talk to Doug or Dan. They will explain anything you need. They are very friendly and helpful. They will NOT pressure you. Larry Huntley

I think Dan's Clipper has over 10 years on the finish.

    Tyler,
I was very happy with Stewarts and my 14 year old son helped. I wouldn't have exposed him to all those other processes I used.

Just looked in my hangar prior to coming into work. A buddy just completed the base finish coat on another friend's Clipper project, and was taping off for the striping. This plane is being done w/ Stewart's. Wow! A very nice finish. From what I've learned of this system from others, it's definitely the way to go.
