PA22/20 Conversion Concern.
I recently test taxied a PA22/20 that didn't feel like it had enough rudder. When I got it back in the hanger I discovered that the right rudder pedal hit the firewall before the rudder hit the stop. This is the second time I have seen this problem. The first airplane came to me because the owner couldn't tame it and the second one came in on a trailer because it groundlooped and tore the right gear out. Luckily both times I was able to cut the nicropress and shorten the cable. Just something I thought might save someone some pain and aggravation.

Good to know, but I have never felt like a Pacer didn't have enough rudder!
Another possible problem is if the top of the rudder pedal (read brake) hits the firewall or tube and restricts the brake effectiveness at full travel.
This could be what you are talking about.
If a brake actuator rod hits a tube it will bend or break (expensive now)
My experience is that the multiple hole plate gives enough adjustment if the cables are the right legnth.
If this happens you might be able to get almost full rudder, but often if you have that much rudder in the brake is the next best chance to regain control and OOPs no brake.

My previous Pacer would not go to the rudder stop when brake was applied but this rudder pedal hit before the stop was reached prior to applying brake. Both good things to look for though.

Yes indeed. I is important to realize that the top (or actuatir arm or brake cylinder parts) are closer to the firewall than the pedal and the geometry of the brake pedal moves closer to the firewall parts than the actual pedal.
If the cylinder body hits a tube before the the system hits the stop the actuator rod will bend or break. If the actuator lever from the brake pedal part hits the firewall parts the additional braking is not possible unless you back up the rudder with the opposite pedal and block movement so that more brake can be applied on the desired side.
All in all unlikley in a tense moment requiring quick action.
So everybody who has not checked out their toe brakes for proper clearance should do so the next time thay look at their aircraft!
Best regards,
JDB
